THE ASSOCIATION OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE & ACUPUNCTURE UK (ATCM)
The Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (ATCM) is one of the main self-regulatory bodies that govern the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the UK.
TCM is a system of medicine that includes acupuncture, herbal medicine and therapeutic massage called Tuina. Members are professionally qualified in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and Tuina massage.
At present over 700 professionally qualified TCM practitioners are registered with ATCM. Members adhere to a strict code of ethics and professional conduct to ensure public protection while providing TCM treatments to their patients. They also have full professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
The ATCM is actively engaged in academic study and ongoing research into the clinical application of Traditional Chinese Medicine. ATCM demands high professional standards of all members and plays a crucial role in communication between practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the medical profession.
Our key aims include:
- Promoting high standards of professional practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
- Ensuring that all registrants meet strict requirements for education, conduct, and competence.
- Acting in the public interest by addressing concerns or misconduct swiftly and fairly.
- Supporting safe, ethical, and evidence-informed care for all patients.
This commitment to public protection guides all our policies, procedures, and decisions — from registration and training to disciplinary action.
