Mrs Lei Zhao studied TCM and acupuncture in Beijing College of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and graduated in 1993 with Bachelor degree of Medicine. Since then, she worked in the TCM Rehabilitation and Neurology Unit in the China Rehabilitation Research Centre affiliated hospital in Beijing. Working closely with patients with stroke, her training was specialised in the field of neutral rehabilitation, with a special interest in pain management, whilst attending hospital’s out-patient clinic with general complaints.

Lei moved to the UK and practised acupuncture and TCM before joining the University of Salford in 2005.  Utilising her expertise in acupuncture and pain medicine, she carried out extensive teaching in acupuncture theory, practice and research in the programme of Bsc(hons) TCM Acupuncture. During her years in academia, she worked as lecturer, clinical supervisor and assessor, and later, programme leader until 2012 and trained with PGcert in Higher Education Teaching and Research. She designed and led the module of Pain Management which was well-received and later developed into post-graduate training.

Presently, she continues her professional practice in Manchester and remains a member of ATCMA.
